Shifting Sands was produced in association with the Indigenous Branch of the Australian Film Commission and SBS Independent.
'Shifting Sands' is the continuation of the 'From Sand To Celluloid' collection of short Indigenous films released in 1996.
Promise was produced with the assistance of Screenwest and the Lotteries Commission of Western Australia. |
Synopsis |
Nganyamia prepares a loaf of damber with her grandmother and asks her to reflect on her past. Her Grandmother, Gilladi recalls the circumstances of her arranged marriage. She had been promised her husband before she was born but despite the arrangement fell deeply in love with her husband. Drawing on Aboriginal mythology Promise ends with Gilladi calling up the spirit of her deceased waamba(promised husband). |
