In the first paragraph of this article Reardon points out that every film in the Shifting Sands collection features a female character and that most of the directors are men.
Reardon however, fails to expand on or explore this interesting fact choosing instead to criticize the films for failing to deal with âmeatier issuesâ.
It is worthwhile noting that Shifting Sands was an initiative designed for Indigenous people to tell their own stories. They were not, according to Wal Saunders, manager of the Indigenous Branch of the Australian Film Commssion, intended to be âmessage filmsâ.
