Comments |
Only The Brave received funding from the Australian Film Commission at both the script development and production stages, with additional production funding coming from the independent Filmmakers Fund of Film Victoria.
Casting only the brave presented a big challenge because the director was clear that the leading actors had to be able to authentically portray Greek/Australian girls growing up in a tough working class enviroment. There are still very few 'non-anglo' on actors agents books, the search for the lead actors included visits to drama workshops in schools, youth groups and small theatre companies.

Synopsis |
Coming-of-age portrait of a group of tough teenage girls. Two teenage girls, Alex and Vicki, live on the outskirts of Melbourne and are both desperate to get out of their dead-end sourroundings. The intelligence, depth and harsh realism of Only the Brave is ensured through the direction of Ana Kokkinos, who grew up in the suburban fringes herself. |
