Ana graduated from Monash University law school in 1982 and began a successful career as an industrial lawyer.
In 1990 Ana participated in the Women In Film and Television Course and produced a short video titled, 'Can I Help You ' and a short experimental Super 8 film called ' Primate ' in the same year.
In 1991, she applied to film school and was accepted into a graduate Diploma of film and TV at the Victorian Colledge of the Arts ( formerly Swinburne).
Her graduating film, 'Antamosi' won a number of prizes and awards at Swinburne, including the C. Robert Fine Memorial Scholarship for Best Script; The Australian Film Commission's Best Achievement in Screenplay Award and the Erwin Rado Scholarship for Excellence in Film. 'Antamosi' was selected for competition and screening in a number of International film festivals including Melbourne, Sydney, Edinburgh, Women in the Director's Chair-Chicago and others. It was runner up in the Ethnic Affairs Commission category of the Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films. Sydney Film Festival 1992.
'Only the Brave' is Ana's second film and she co-write the screenplay as well as directing between 1993/94. 'Only The Brave'was entered in a number of festivals and won many awards:
1994 AFI Awards: Best Short Fiction Film, Best Original Screenplay, Open Craft Award ( Elena Mandalis for performance)
1994 Human Rights Award for film.
1994 Gold Medal, Cinematography ( Jaems Grant A.C.S ), Telefeatures and fictional dramas shorts, cinema and TV.
Women's Suffrage Centenary Award, Outstanding achievement by a woman in any area of film making ( for Ana Kokkinos ), Frames Festival of film and Video, Adelaide, October, 1994.

' Head On '1997 Ana kokkinos's first Feature film, written and directed by Ana Kokkinos. Co- Written by Mira Robertson, Andrew Bovell. Selected and Screened at the Cannes Film Festival. Adapted from Christos Tsiolkas's novel Loaded.
The adaption process took a year and the script went through 6 drafts. "The biggest change was from the first and second drafts, a brick wall came around the third and fourth, and found clarity around the fifth and sixth"(Ana Kokkinos ).
Southern Star contributed Development money for the project, and Jane Scott the producer of 'Head On' came in just after the second draft.
