Synopsis This essay looks at the representation of ethnicity in two recent (1990's) films, Strictly Ballroom, and Head On and two early Australian films, A Girl From the Bush (1921) and The Squatter's Daughter (1935).

The essay mainly focuses on the more recent films, looking at areas like dance, music, self discovery and the generation gap between parents and children.
