Tamou comments upon the implict racism at work in his home town during his childhood.
With an Aboriginal mother and Maori father, Tamou was always aware that he was "culturally different" from the non-indigenous and indigenous towns people.
It is interesting to note that Round Up examines the tenous relationship between two country boys - an Aboriginal stockman and a white stockman whose father owns the land they work on. After battling out their differences - which lands them in a city hospital -they come to realize that their cultural differences can be overcome.
