Name Ann Turner
Birth Year 1960
Death Year 0000
Country Australia
Comments Ann Turner was born in Adelaide. As a young woman she commenced a law degree but decided to study film in Melbourne instead. She graduated from Swinburne School of Film & Television (now VCA) in 1981. Her graduate film 'Flesh on Glass' won best screen play award in 1981. Turner has worked with many famous actors including Toni Collete, Russel Crowe, Susan Sarondon, Sam Neill and Emily Blunt across the course of her career. Her films often discuss ‘normality’ in the sense that no-one is normal. She delves into issues such as middle-class Australian families in turmoil, bisexuality, child adoption, childhood fears, suburbia, communism, refugees and typical ‘Aussie’ culture, exposing that the stereotypical family or personal relationship is never ordinary and always bizarre. Her films have won international exposure such as Celia: Child of Terror which won the Grand Prix award at the Créteil International Women's Film Festival and Dallas Doll which was aired at the London Film Festival. Not only does Turner direct her films, she also screen writes many of them.
