I used the following dates because they were repeated or from the most reliable source:

History of the Capri |
The Capri was built as the 'Murrumbeena Public Hall' in 1932. Its administrator was the Caulfield City Council. In 1937, the hall was renamed in 'The Argosy Theatre' and in 1965 in 'Capri'. In that time the theatre had seven lessees. But as the Capri there was only one lessee: Maurie Isaac. He was favouring in science fiction and fantasy. Therefore, he liked to show many science fiction films. So, the Capri got famous for its science fiction program and the special science fiction events, for example the 'Science Fiction films festival' and the 'Science Fiction Film Convention'.
Even when the television signals were switched on, the Capri continued to screen into the 70s. Many cinemas had to close at this time, but the Capri did still exist. However, the Capri was the most modest theatre around this area, it was the place to be in the mid 1970s.
The Capri was demolished in 1988 and a retirement home was built. Today there is a nursing home in 89-91 Murrumbeena Road in Murrumbeena.
