A perceptive and empathetic article whereby the author recognises that the protagonists within 'The F.J. Holden' "are human beings, not social phenomena"(50) |
Synopsis |
Of central protagonists Anne and Kevin's relationship in the 'F.J. Holden', P. P. McGuinness states; "...The very sparseness of the detail of that relationship is the very esssence of the film - it is very much a matter of emotionally barren, but none the less real, contacts between suburban kids which reflects the materially rich but aimless mileu in which they live"(50).
McGuinness continues, stating; "it is tempting to describe...['The F.J. Holden'] as a documentary because of its very authenticity as a portrait of the Western suburbs of Sydney, as well as its cool lack of any "message". |
