Comments This is a terrific source for comming to a broad understanding of periodical 'film phases' in the Australian film history.

Synopsis In this chapter, McFarlane investigates the 'current' rash of Austrlian films which he feels are predominately concerned with youth and personal identity.

He finds the Australian treatment of youths in films during the 1980's tended to exploit more maginalised teenage groups such as the ethnic or abused minority.

For McFarlane, Australian youth films in the 1980's were platforms for realist battles!
