This is the book critically analysis all aspect of the Greater Union ,it is a 75 years cinema and the book gives an account of the cinema's history, development and the further.it has mentioned some particular movement and the event moment.
Nowadays the russell cinema also named the kings at 1908,it has been much developed and huge changed. It are so much difference stage of the Greater Union. it has rapid changed compare to the early stage.
The chapter explained many reason of the movement and described some particular event during the different times.
It has been writhed about the greater union in the Sixties it was a time of spectacular regeneration.Old theaters were converted into modern,luxurious cinemas capable of presenting the latest technological advances in the most comfortable and eye-pleasing surroundings.
1976 was,again, a year of changes for Greater Union personnel.the investment in Australian films continued with tittles like The Irishman,Summer filed and The Mango Tree.the company had also signed to release Phillippe Mora's Mad Dog Morgan about the notorious bushranger. (XIU QI GE)
The third chapter 'The Rydge Years' mainly explains the difficulties Greater Union faced during war time. The Rydge Years started 1939 with Norman Bede Rydge taking over the position as the Chairman of Greater Union Theatres. He was well known for his work as an accountant and he had built himself a really good reputation in the financial world.
During war cinemas went through a rough time. There was a decrease in cinemagoers as well as in film production. This was one reason why there had been a lot of changes.
Throughout the fifties Greater Union Theatres purchased,leased or updated a lot of theatres. One theatre that became a facelift in 1955 was the Grosvenor theatre in Melbourne. (Gitta Witzel)
