Comments Australian director and screenwriter Shirley Barrett has worked in TV and short films before making the leap to features in 1996. Born and educated in Melbourne, Barrett began writing, directing and producing short films after completing studies at the Australian Film and Television Radio School in late 1987.

Barrett has written/directed the highly successful feature film LOVE SERENADE, which premiered in Cannes Film Festival and took home the prestigious Camera d'Or award. The film also screened at the Sundance Film Festival and was released in a number of territories including USA, Europe, Japan and NZ.

Barrett also directed a number of episodes of the critically acclaimed Australian television series LOVE MY WAY, as well as HEARTBREAK HIGH, A COUNTRY PRACTICE and BOYS FROM THE BUSH.

An accomplished writer, Barrett also directed WALK THE TALK, which screened at the Toronto Film Festival and the documentary CHAINSAW 327 which was nominated for an AFI Award and screened at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.
