Born 1884.
Had an established horse racing identity before opening the Plaza in 1934. His horse Colonus won the 1942 Melbourne Cup.
Opened the Plaza despite four other picture theaters in the neighborhood (the closest being the Northcote Theatre, which was within 400 meters). CinemaRecord (Issue 66, Edition 2 2010) speculates that the theatre was to supoort independent owners and break Hoyts' well developed 'hegemony' over the suburbs and its picture entertainment.
Died 1963, three years after the Plaza was closed down. Burried in Box Hill cemetery. |
