'Plaza Theatre: Against The Odds' is an extensive collection of information regarding the venue. It includes photographs of the theatre and of the owner Ludbrook Owen Menck, manager Alex Roy Harwood. Also included is a sketch of the original interior (1934) and various advertisements from the time of its programs. Also included is a sketch of the Plaza's layout, which included vomitories (entrances leading to the tiers of seats).
Much discussion of multiple renovations occurring within the Plaza's timespan. Mentions individuals such as Toni Lamond, Joff Ellen and other performers.
Also makes reference to manager Alex Roy Harwood making changes to the Plaza's forms of entertainment. First in 1941, writing to the Health Department to ask advice on turning the venue into "an A-class, or fully live theatre" in 1941(p. 13) and then Harwood submitting a proposal to re-introduce stage shows in 1949, after the Second World War influenced more pictures being shown until then. |
