Joseph Perry was a film producer, showman as well as a salvation army officer. Was originally born in Birmingham, England, but moved to Christchurch, New Zealand with his mum and dad at 11 years of age. In 1885 he married Annie Laurenson before moving to Sydney to work for the Salvation Army. It was through the Salvation Army where Joseph developed his film skills in the hope he could document his work for The Salvos. It was through his oustanding work with the camera where Joseph's talents were recognised which lead him into the film industry.
