Comments |
A fascinating insight into the collaborative process of making a film. Particularily noteworthy, as the film was made in the chaos of European refugee camps post World War II.
Letters available for reading:

Synopsis |
A detailed insight into the production process of making Mike and Stefani, as shown through the letters exchanged between Maslyn Williams, Stanley Hawes and Kevin Murphy (Director-General of the Department of Information).
Williams was based in Europe doing pre-production on the film and sent detailed âscript outlinesâ to Hawes for evaluation and approval. Hawes replied with script comments, advice and directions.
The letters discuss the difficult conditions under which the film is being made; the need for assistance (both personal and financial), and a cautionary instruction (from Murphy)that the film is not to dwell too much âon the more depressing aspects of life in D.P. camps in Europeâ (Murphy to Hawes letter 7 October, 1949).
