With filming of the movie âCharlie and Bootsâ beginning in Warrnambool, local residents were offered the opportunity to audition for roles as extras. For a small rural community this is an exciting opportunity and the turn out proved huge. With many local residents selected to play a part in the opening of the film, everybody knew somebody whose face may turn up on their tvâs in the near future. This generated a lot of local interest in the film. Following completion of the film, the local newspaper released this story on the morning of the world premiere. Unfortunately for the town the premiere was scheduled to be at the local cinema, however following a fire the cinema was forced to close its doors and the world premiere relocated to Melbourne instead. This particular story served as a reminder of the local talent within the film, for this interest came and went many months before this night. This story once again generated the local interest in the film, reminding locals that they could see their friends alongside Paul Hogan in the flesh. For this purpose, the article served for the promotional side of the film. In a sense the article also reminds readers of the importance of the Australian film industry and Australian media, for without this film it may be someone on the other side of the globes face flashing across the screen instead of our neighbours. |
