Comments Johnson and Gibson were camera operators who merged with the Tait family to become Amalgamated Pictures, which was an Australasian film company based in Melbourne. Gibson (who was an astute businessman) imported several films from overseas to Australia, which saw his business thrive. Amalgamated Pictures being a production company who produced several feature length films were well connected with all the leading cinemas throughout Australia. Given the Perry sons worked with Amalgamated Pictures on The Story of the Kelly Gang as camera operators along with a number of other projects as well, their reputable connection with Johnson and Gibson would've been likely to ensure that a number of films made by Amalgamated Pictures would be screened at The Tivoli. Amalgamated Pictures produced two major films in 1912 titled The Mystery of a Hansom Cab and The Bells, both in which were screened at The Tivoli that year. Apart from the production group's ability to make A Grade films, they're work attracted hundreds upon hundreds of viewers night after night and due to the fact that ticket prices were cheap back then, particularly at The Tivoli where it was only 6 pence to watch a screening, ensured that Amalgamated Pictures would be a powerhouse organisation within the film industry.
