A fantastic read for anyone interested in the Road Movie Genre! Williams' book is an 'A-Z' directory to Road Movies (primarily American) produced up to and including 1982. |
Synopsis |
While Williams' text is primarily a catalogue of Road Movies, in the fourteen page introduction he helpfully delineates a number of ways in which one can possibly 'read' the road movie.
After stating that there are numerous theoretical approaches to the road movie, Williams appropriates his claim with the assertion that "...behind the celulloid facade there is a complex interplay of social mores involving the relationship with the car. Some filmmakers have attempted to address this by introducing heavy-handed allegorical devices of one sort or another, and some have concerned themselves withthe ephemeral flotsam of car culture"(p 6) |
