Comments |
A provocative article, especially for Stewart's decidedly 'bourgeois' statements such as "...I guess I liked the film because I've always been a bit of a middle class runaway myself. In documentary films I've enjoyed being in other people's worlds without wanting to fit them into my own basically middle class lifestyle, so in that sense I was probably a perfect audience for The F.J. Holden"(8) |
Synopsis |
In her review, Stewart rebukes the claims that were circulating at the time that 'The F.J. Holden' was Australia's 'American Grafitti', stating that "...if anything it's Australia's 'Last Picture Show".
Stewart praises director Michael Thornhill for not succumbing and putting in extraneous narrative hits or highs, but wonders "...whether [the film] can be commercially successful without these formalities"(8) |
