Comments
The article is informative, and a high point is director Michael Thornhill's observation of the motivation (or perhaps, lack of) behind the two central characters, Kevin and Anne.

Disappointing, however, is his flippant statements that the central characters are 'value-free'. This a major problem experienced by many of the reviewers of the time, who were unable to grasp that the values of these youth weren't absent, they were simply differently skewed!
Synopsis
Alysen and Liber talk to Thornhill about the technicalities of making a feature with a then contemporary theme - youth in the Western suburbs - non-professional actors and a low budget of $300,000.

When asked how the film came about, Thornhill responds that "...it started as a semi-documentary written by Terry Larsen, a value free account of kids living in the western suburbs. I liked its freshness and basic honesty and I especially liked the fact that it wasn't peddling a social message, but on the other hand, wasn't a conservative melodrama"(10).
