An interesting read.
Synopsis
McKay opens his article with a statement that emphasises the 'cultural cringe' of the time, when he says that "...The most refreshing aspect of this spooky satire is that its Australianism is almost accidental, not a gravelly Ocker accent in sight"(24)

Whilst providing a synopsis of the film, of Peter Weir, McKay asserts that the themes investigated within the film have universal appeal "...that the tyranny of the automobile has reached devastating proportions. That, after crashing, killing and maiming ourselves in these mobile coffins, they may be about to turn"(24).
