Comments I enjoyed reading this small review because I thoroughly appreciated Tom Ryan's arguments in defence of Mysterious Skin. Ryan gave it four stars, and includes, on the side, a brief biography of Gregg Araki which brought to light many points about Araki that helped my understanding of his interest in adapting Mysterious Skin to screen.
Synopsis In his review Tom Ryan defends Mysterious Skin. He laments the manner in which the film "courts controvery simply because it's about paedophilia". Unlike others, Ryan emphasises that the storyline is in fact "compassionate and confronting."

Ryan explores the character of the coach in the film, explaining that "Instead of being portrayed as a salivating toad of a man, the coach has the fresh-faced charm and good looks of the young Robert Redford, the kind of man a kid like Neil would hero-worship, a father figure he can look up to."
