Comments |
Quite an interesting read! It discusses a less well known cluster of Melbourne based films existing in the early eighties, the 'realist / low budget feature' (commonly dealing with youth and delinquency).
Observations and comments are well writen although the article is tainted with an aura of overt cynisism.

Synopsis |
This article is fundamentally a review of "Hard Knocks." Pattison often juxtaposes the film against shallow television programmes such as 'Prisoner' in an attempt to render it as a simplistic or one dimensional exploitation of the 'youth as subject'motif.
It offers a basic synopsis of the film, some scene descriptions and character notes. Pattison found the film's unorthodox structure distracting and it's 'rock' sound track over-bearing.
The conclusion of the article sees Pattison asserting that 'Mouth To Mouth,' 'Hard Knocks' and other such youth 'tradgedy's' revolve around a sense of social inevitability with parents perpetuating harmful or abusive cycles in thier own families.Pattison sees this underlying theme as blatantly over-used!
Overall, not a positive or encouraging review of Hard Knocks here! |
