Title White Construction of Black Identity in Australian Films about Aborigines
Author(s)Anne Hickling-Hudson
Volume 18
Issue 4
Page Number 263-274
Comments Hickling-Hudson is concerned with the continuation of Euro-centric and racist stereotypes of Black-White relations in the media.

This essay indicates that in both Walkabout and Bitter Springs focus "on the story of the whites, who react to the Aboriginal people as incidents in their lives." The author believes this approach is not overtly racist like earlier texts, but still does not treat the Black story as equal to the White.

In Walkabout: "It is the white girl and boy who remain the subjects of this film."
Synopsis A lengthy article exploring representations of black identity in four Australian feature films.
