Whilst the St. George itself operated in the first half on the 20th Century, It would appear that the only photographs of the building were taken in the second half. This photograph, it would seem, is the earliest such example, early in this case being sometime in the 1980s. Shown in the cinema record (issue no.19) as part of entry on the cinema, the cinema appears in it's interior and exterior structure. The main façade of the cinema featuring prominent. The interior shots depict a time in the theatre's life when it was used as a ballroom, hence the wide open hardwood floor. The inteior also highlights the sliding sun roof, which was proposed by owner J. McFarlane.
The photos speak of the cinema's old heritage style, and you get the sense of intimacy that the cinema seemed to create. |
