This is a great body of elaborate information from the National Film & Sound Archive curator Paul Byrnes. Byrnes delves deep into director Sue Brooks childhood, environment and family, in particular her fathers yarns, giving pretence to the general rhythm and style used in the film. He shows extensive and particular knowledge on the creative team behind the film, and as such gives the audience a sense of the film without directly talking about it. This piece also explores specific nuances portrayed by the characters in the film and how they add to the construction of the dominant theme within the script. Byrnes acknowledges the films ability to weave so much meaning and nuance into a comedy. To further the knowledge already disseminated, Byrnes also includes the performance of the film at the box office (a value hard to find) and the way in which it was released around Australia. These notes are a detailed and profesional take of the film in it's entirety, and are a very valuable source of information amongst many superficial texts available today. |
