This review provides the reader with a detailed opinion of the film from the reviewer Jane Freebury. Freebury’s review of the film critically examines the positive and negative elements to the film $9.99. This review is not long however it is a good resource as it provides a variety of aspects from the on screen narrative, to comparison films, director and writer information and her educated opinion. This review could be used for the audience of the film to look at the film from a more critical angle and read other points of view. When using the review as part of research into the film $9.99 one must remember that this is a secondary source of information that is bias to Freebury’s point of view. This review is important because when researching a film often one of the best resources when beginning the research as they provide the audience with new ideas and opinions for further research. The reviews title ‘Loosely woven, clever and fun’ is an excellent hook line to the film. The term loosely woven refers to the series of short stories being combined into one feature film, however they are only ‘loosely’ combined together with simple techniques. The film visually and individual story elements are extremely ‘clever’ and brave as the realism of the puppets can be seen as a huge risk in animation. The puppets in stop motion animation are usually unusual and unrealistic taking the audience into another world far from anything familiar. However the puppets in $9.99 are based on humans and the world we live in, which is extremely different to other animation breaking typical stereotypes. Whilst watching the film one must critically analyses whether this film would have been better as a regular film. This review is directly related to the film $9.99 and will be a comprehensive source of information for further research into the topic.
