Evidence of live music being performed at the Lyric Fitzroy during the silent film era. The theatre is listed alongside a number of others that are being promoted as part of a song promotion for Jack O'Hagen's new tune "Molly" for Allens Music. The name of each theatre in the list is preceded by a name that I presume is that of the organist, based on the fact that Charles Vita is known to be an organist that played at the Lyric Fitzroy at one time. In this ad he is listed for the Barkly Theatre Footscray, and Mr Briglia is listed for the Lyric Fitzroy. The ad also mentions that the song will be "specially featured by Melbourne's two leading dance orchestras George Arnold's Palais de Danse Orchestra and Carlyon's Famous Players â Director Carl Mebden".
This is interesting to see how picture theatres were being used in the mid 1920's to promote the sale of songs through live performances during the interval between silent films. |
