Facebook post onto Cinemas and Theatres of Australia wall. Requests any known information regarding the cinema in question - St Kilda Memorial. Work on the St Kilda Memorial commenced in 1923 and completed and opened in November 1924. Designed by Hudson and Wardrop, and constructed by R.L. Phillips. It was used as a community hall. A film license was obtained and screenings didn't commence until 1927. Its final screening was on 10th December 1958. In 2010 it was revamped and reopened for use as a multi-purpose studio/theatre/hall/nightspot.

Synopsis |
This is a Facebook page that is dedicated to Cinemas and Theatres of Australia. It is both for aficionados and people who appreciate classic cinemas and theatres. It acts both as a record of each venue with provided information, as well as a place where one can share photos or memories of a particular venue they used to visit. The page contains hundreds of archival and personal photos, and includes discussions on different venues and some information behind each one. I have gotten a great deal of information from this website on the Astrojet Theatre, and I owe them my thanks for providing their information. |
