Comments |
Eight hours of interviews with Ken Hall, closely discussing his career in film in both Hollywood as a publicity man, and in Australia as a director for Cinesound Productions.
His comments are at times incisive and detailed, but the interviewers often lead him off in another direction at the wrong time, and appear to miss out on eliciting further information from him.
The National Film and Sound Archive holds a copy of the interviews - ignore the cover labels, go by the reel numbers in the title cards on the actual tapes, if you want to watch it chronologically. |
Synopsis |
A series of interviews with Ken Hall conducted by Graeme Shirley, George Miller and Phil Noyce.
Information regarding Jocelyn Howarth and The Squatter's Daughter can be found on reel 6, 7 and 10.
Information regarding Hall's trip to Fox Studios in Hollywood, his employment of Helen Twelvetrees and Edmond Seward and the making of 'Thoroughbred' (1936) can be found on reel 7 and reel 8, except that reel 8 is actually missing from the collection (despite the deceptive cover labels, which wrongly claim there should only be 15 tapes).
Also discusses the film Smithy and is one of the best resources in this regard. The Beta tape marked No 1 contains 30 minutes on the production and making of the film. |
