Copyright Title Mungo Lady
Director Mari Bennett
Comments Archival Footage - SBS Television , ABC TV Library Sales , Richard Carter
Synopsis In 1960 the remains of an Aboriginal women were exhumed at Lake Mungo , NSW by the anthropologist Alan Thorne. The women lived at least 25,000 years ago and represented evidence of elaborate funerary customs. The remains were exhibited around the world and returned to the Aboriginal people in 1990. Digging up the remains of ancestors without consultation with the lineage of that tribe is sacreligious , and the film is a personal account of the struggle to have the remains returned so that the spirit of Mungo Lady could finally rest.
