Abbie Cornish had some appearances in other movie and TV shows and had dabbled in the modeling world but this role kick started her career and landed her, her first award.
Somersault exploded onto the scene and grossed over AUD $2 million, the second highest grossing film of 2004 in Australia.
Cate Shortland developed this film over several years, spending a significant period of time in a rural town outside of Canberra, similar to âJindabyne.â Shortlandâs observations and experiences, showed in the film, giving it an authentic feel. So too, the extended time Shortland took to develop the film, gave depth and complexity to the characters. |
Synopsis |
Somersault is a film about a young girl, who ventures out of home and encounters many different experiences. Somersault is a film that deals with adolescent struggles and focuses on the journey young girls, in particular, can take, experimenting with independence and their newfound sexuality. |
