Harvie Krumpet is a short stop-motion clay animation for adults directed by Adam Elliot. The film is intended for adults interested in Australian sop motion animation particularly clay animation. Because it is not a feature length film the audience is a small niche market. The narrative is clever and extremely unique to Australian cinema with no similar short or feature films prior to this. This short film is a good comparison to the film $9.99 which is also a stop motion animation film not quite feature length film. Both films break down the complexities of life with a philosophical viewpoint looking at the smaller things, which make Australians happy trough the âmeaning of lifeâ theme in $9.99 and âcarpe diemâ (seize the day) idea in Harvie Krumpet. Harvey Krumpet is a valuable piece of film art in Australian cinema culture because it breaks typical stereotypes by making a adult animation which is quite dark. The film contains themes of drug use, illness, nudity, sex, profanity and violence, which are relatively new to the animation genre. This film is valuable for the future of Australian stop motion adult animation because it had great success winning 20 awards one being an Oscar for âBest Short Film, Animatedâ which is the highest accolade it could receive. The success of this film will be a platform for future Australian filmmakers allowing them to use this as an example. Funding is extremely difficult to revive in Australia for independent films and having examples like Harvie Krumpet will help future filmmakers with this as an example of success. This film is an original source of information about Harvie Krumpet and the interpretation one can take from it is at an individual level. The film although it is simple in nature and idea develops very complex ideas similar to $9.99 and starts audiences thinking into more complex themes and their own life.

Harvie Krumpet is a short stop-motion clay animation with the target audience being adults. The film would interest people who enjoy or take curiosity in stop motion animation particularly clay animation. Harvie Krumpet is not a feature length film hence the target audience would be a smaller niche than most full length Australian feature films. After Harvie Krumpet obtained so many awards, especially its Oscar, the film would have been viewed by a much larger audience than its initial intended niche. The narrative is clever and very well scripted. This film is definitely unique especially for Australian cinema with no similar products prior to this. Another Australian stop motion film, â$9.99â would be a good comparison to Harvie Krumpet. Both films are classified as short films instead of features. They both have similar themes and morals. They both simply show the complexities of life with a philosophical viewpoint looking at the smaller and more basic things, which make Australians and all humans happy. They both have strong âmeaning of lifeâ, âlive life to the fullest and âcarpe diemâ (seize the day) ideas and themes. Harvie Krumpet goes against typical film stereotypes by making an adult animation which is quite dark and has quite unhappy scenes and themes. The film contains drug use, illness, nudity, sex, profanity and violence, which is hugely unusual for an Australian stop motion film to possess and is relatively unseen in the animation genre. This film is valuable for the future of Australian adult animation because it has huge differences to other films in its genre whilst still attaining great success, even an Oscar. The film was awarded over 20 awards and the films success will be a platform for future Australian filmmakers. Funding is a huge issue for independent Australian film, however Harvie Krumpet shows all filmmakers that a big budget does not necessarily make a brilliant and successful film. The film has a very simple nature, however the themes and ideas developed are actually very complex and encourages audiences to think about more intricate themes in their own life and the value of life itself. Harvie Krumpet is a respected and valued piece of film art in Australian cinema culture.
