Title BMX Bandits
Copyright Title BMX Bandits
Released 1983
Production Year 1983
Director Brian Trenchard-Smith
Comments The film is extremely action heavy with a very slim linear narrative. The choreography and physical stunts are admirable, with Brian Trenchard-Smith (Director) presenting an engaging unique form for an action film, who deemed it a 'junior James Bond-Mad Max action comedy with spills, thrills and packed with laughs and gasps'. A great film for young kids to sink their teeth into, though could be deemed repetitive and lacking in substance for older viewers.
Synopsis The film follows three young BMXers who stumble across a package of stolen walkie-talkies intended for a gang of bank robbers next job. The trio, unaware that the walkie-talkies are interrupting police broadcasts, sell the devices to their friends in order to raise money for a new BMX, though attracting both cops and criminals simultaneously. Eventually Judy (the female in the trio), gets kidnapped by the gang. In response, the other two BMXers enlist the help of all the BMX fanatics in the area to aid in her rescue. Armed with flour bombs and extremely skillful BMX maneuvers the adolescents win the day and are rewarded with the money to build their own BMX racing track.
