Fergus Torpy - Van Diemen's Land - Australian Horror? |
Van Diemens Land is an Australian horror/drama. Through my research I will present a connection between Australian horror films and the parallels to zombie films. Using historical events, Tasmanias convict history I will discover what social implication this film had. Did it push any boundaries? Is it a typical horror film? Why the director Jonathan auf der Heide choose the name Van Diemen's Land?
Because Australian films portray a very culturally unique style it becomes difficult to measure its receivership. How did the critics handle this film? Can it draw comparisons to Snowtown or Wolf Creek? My research will attempt to dissect Van Diemens Land and its use of horror and how it compares to other Australian films and how its received?
