Tom was born in Victoria educated at a Cathilic school then finished later at Private Boys school in innear Melnourne. He passion since a boy was to mae films, he bagan with as a trainee at ABC television and began making his own works on Super 8. By 1964 he was the youngest cameraman to work at the CFU. By the 1970's he was known as a top underground cameraman. He travelled widely, working with directors such a, John Richardson, Nigel Buesst, John Duigan, Bert Derling.... Tom has adopted a more Euorpean style of filming one which resonates from the Neo-Realist era, he has also been influenced by his filming experiences in India.
