Comments David Haines was born in Bristol England. He worked in various jobs in England, such as a banker and a teacher. In 1979 he emigrated to Australia becoming an actor. He has appeared in many commercials and has also had small parts in several television series.

In 1981 he became a member of the then Film Censorship Board (now the Office of Film and Literature Classification). In 1986, Haines became the Duputy Chief Censor, a position he held until 1994. Concurrent with his appointment to the Deputy role, he also became the Secretary of the Senate standing committee for censorship matters.

In 1995 having left the OFLC, Haines became a consultant to various media organizations such as the Pay television station Nightmoves and the Axis group, an adult video mail order company, as an advisor on censorship policy and to prepare submissions to the OFLC, (he is still retained by these groups to advise them on censorship matters).

In 1998, Haines became the Chief Executive Officer and producer for the newly formed Redstone Films production house (a subsidiary of the Axis group).

He has produced one feature for Redstone, the film 'Buffy Down Under' (hailed by many as the film that will spark the renaissance of Australian Erotica). He currently has another feature in post production which will be released around Christmas, 1998. He has also written articles in cinema papers and other journals on censorship matters.
