Played character Judy Cross in 'Thoroughbred' (Cinesound, 1936) a minor role with little definition, but her performance won her several critics' applause, sometimes over the star of the film, Hollywood actress Helen Twelvetrees.
Prior to 'Thoroughbred', Barnes was involved in the theatre and in particular an Australian production called 'Du Bary'.
