Westlake studied the art of music and the clarinet under the direction of his eminent father, Australian Clarinetist Don Westlake. Nigel Westlake is recognized as one of Australia's leading clarinetists and composers. He worked as a freelance musician with many Australian ensembles and orchestras before forming "The Magic Puddin Band." As both a composer and a performer, Westlake has recieved many awards for his work. In 1987, he recieved the Gold Medal for best original music as the composer in residence with ABC Radio. His percussion quarter was selected to represent Australia at the Paris Rostrum in 1986. Westlake is presently a core member of the Australian Ensemble and of a six piece chamber emsemble with which he plays clarinet. he is a resident at the University of New South Wales. |
