The Port Fairy Film Society (PFFS) is run by a committee of 10 volunteer members, most of whom have full-time jobs and families, but all of whom share a passion for film.
PFFS began in 1991 when the Community House was established. For 10 years it screened classic 16mm films and then videos to audiences of 5-20 members in a variety of venues, with creative programming by Gerry Fahey, Cate Allen and Laurene Dietrich.
In 2001 a user-based Management Committee was appointed to run Reardon Theatre in Port Fairy. After a successful trial booking of Reardon Theatre to screen Buena Vista Social Club, the PFFS negotiated a 12 monthly 35mm screenings in 2002. The PFFS showcased mainly current art house films that otherwise were not shown in South West Victoria.
2003 the Reardon Theatre committee install a new screen and curtains, then in 2007 PFFS purchase digital equipment to screen DVDs for film society members only (films not supported by Hollywood).
Currently the PFFS run summer movies from 28 December - 26 January for the general public and monthly films for the 12 PFFS members. |
