Matt White claims that Oz "offended [his] senses". His review offended mine.
He provides us with little more than a BORING, BORING, BORING, ranting, raving, 'Alan Jones' type of an affair to read, and I say that not just because I am a fan of the film!
When Oz was released, too many reviewers tried to parallel the film with its so-called original 'The Wizard of Oz', without understanding the irony that the film was intended to be read as a type of 'send up' of the Golden Age of Hollywood, for a savvier (if jaded) younger generation to align themselves with.
Instead of supporting a film in a burgeoning local industry, reviewers such as White chose to condemn it, in favour of the 'days of yore'...
Finally, you would think by responses such as Whites, that the director, Chris Lofven, had commited Sacrilege. |

Matt White appears to be a man who does not go in for subtlety. He did not like the film. He did not even provide a review. Instead he bestowed his readership with an essay of insults and disparagaging comments that go on, and on, and on..
Here's a taste of some of, what I like to consider, his 'pearlers';
"God knows how much it cost or how long it took to make, but Oz is an embarrasment and an insult to the memory of some of the finest musicals to come out of Hollywood"
and
"There is music in Oz. Some of it is passable, in a strident sort of way"
not to mention,
"I was delighted to live happily ever after without needing to dwell any more on the nasty antics which had offended my senses"
and so on... |
