This review is an entertaining read, and arguably one of the best regarding 'Oz', if only because of Donaldson and Langer's acknowledgment that such statements as Oz being not as good as the 'original' Wizard of Oz are redundant, due to "the context of what Oz is - a low budget Rock n' Roll film"(172) |
Synopsis |
Donaldson and Langer open their review with the acknowledgment that "..the idea of basing a film on a classic like 'The Wizard of Oz' is obviously a difficult enterprise. The original is so charged with emotional meaning and so much a part of the unconscious of generations of filmgoers, that put-down comparisons could easily become a substitute for genuine evaluation"(172) |
