Comments It's a wonderful and worth-reading chapter no matter you are reading it for research or not.
Synopsis In this chapter, the characteristics of mateship in Australia are analysed and dicussed in detail. That includes both the admirable moralites and significant drawbacks. The chapter also examines the differences between friendship and mateship, and how the traditional institution of mateship has signicantly influenced Australian men's perception of friendship. At the end, the writor points out that in mateship and some male friendships, the lack of emotional intimacy is the major limitations that inhibits certain forms of male friendship and leaves many men isolated or solely dependent on wives and families.
