This piece captures Jocelyn Moorhouseâs first approach to making films. Although her first film âProof was a major success, Moorhouse with Lynda House settled in to co-produce Murielâs Wedding. Alongside her husband as director, PJ Hogan Jocelyn worked to produce this film. This piece gives us an idea of how Moorhouse went about finding a Rhonda and Muriel, the two major women in the film. It gives us an insight into what Moorhouse was thinking about when choosing a female to play these parts. âWe wanted to tell a story of a woman who is not comfortable with her physical self, a symptom of her not being happy with her lifeâ. It opens up the question of how the connection between the character, Muriel and Jocelyn can be depicted in similar ways. Muriel wanted to be someone, just like Jocelyn explains how she wanted to be a director but was unsure how to get there. The importance of friendship and trust is also captured in this piece which allows us to understand that Jocelyn is a big believer in successful women having strong friendships with other women and a huge sense of trust in one another.
The piece also helps us get a strong understanding of her marriage with PJ Hogan. They are able to work alongside one another, help one another in their ideas and encourage one anotherâs success. |
