This review was accessible on the film website urbanfile, where reviews of a variety of films are easy to view, and come from a variety of writers. This review was written by Andrew Urban, and is intended for people who are interested in a more in depth look at the film Ten Canoes. This review looks at the film from an entirely different perspective, with the discussion based around the theme of humor. The review demonstrates the film to a wider audience, with many not knowing the film is humorous from finish to end. It also aligns with the idea that the film is extremely human, with no real actors used and with a lot of it improvised, the humor within the film is more understandable for viewers. Another underlying theme within the article is the idea of creating a high concept film done through low concept film making. The Australian film industry doesnât provide sufficient funding for films such as Ten Canoes, and hits article demonstrated how the power of landscape, cinematography and great direction can create a visually beautiful film on a low budget. The review also analyses the use of language throughout the film, which is seen as the glue for the film. With the film using subtititles, this lessen its appeal, however the up beat tempo and humour throughout the film gives it a real warmth and also places a cultural value in the film. This review could add discussion concerning landscape and its importance to Aboriginal culture for my field. |
