The website Turner Classic Movies is at its core essentially to old films what Rotten Tomatoes is to new films: A vast collection of information regarding a particular film including synopsis, casting and any user reviews that have been posted. Much in the same vein as the Internet Movie Database, the importance of this page to the overall final product is not in the technical information, but in the three reviews down the bottom; one done by professional Leonard Maltin, the other by random users Scott and Kent. Part of the point of this page, setting it aside from the aforementioned Internet Movie Database is the division of its 5 star ratings into categories such as Cinema History, Director or Lead Performance, which allows for a more concise assessment of the filmâs good and the poor qualities. Regrettably, the stars are somewhat averaged out over the 9 different categories, leading to an overall rating of 2.22 out of 5 stars. The final use that these reviews will have are as handy reference quotes that will be used, such as âIt tries for pathos and failsâ Or that the movie should be on DVD because of the actors involved âNo matter how good (or not) it is.â Such varied opinions are vital to be contrasted against the professional opinion.
