The Film Weekly journal was aimed at people in the Australian film industry and general public film enthusiasts. It was the Film industryâs version of the Weekly Times. This article could be used in research of the Hoyts Bulleen, and also Hoyts Theatres Limited as it is a good documentation of the companies development.
It is important because it provides a detailed description of the announcement of the new cinema in Bulleen by Dale Turnbull, general manager of Hoyts Theatres Limited. It adds detail about the long negotiations with the Melbourne Board of Works and Doncaster and Templestowe Shire Council to finally get the plans approved. It also describes how it will be the 8th Hoyts drive-in cinema and serve a population of 297,000 from suburbs such as Heidelberg, Templestowe and Doncaster.
It also offers an interesting insight into the reasons for the site being chosen for its picturesque views which slopes down to the banks of the Yarra River, and the endeavours to preserve the natural beauty of the site. It also makes mention of the instruction of architects Peter Muller and Trevor J. Evans on the project.
The article is very reliable, as the Film Weekly is a high authority in the industry, however being a film based journal, their views and information may be bias to portray the subject more positively.
