This chapter âMelba, Liberty, Odeonâ in Cinemas of Australia via USA has incredible detail regarding the historical milestones of these three cinemas. Due to the descriptive nature of the chapter containing articles from the opening nights of the Melba (The Argus, June 10, 1911, p.20) and the Liberty (Building, April 24, 1939, p.41), this would appeal to anyone interested in the history of Australian theatres and historical Melbourne. The chapter gives factual information on the opening and closing dates of all three cinemas and why they closed/re-opened which can be compared correctly to other sources relating to this topic. The chapter also details the atmosphere and in-house structure of the building which gives a great comparison between modern day and historical cinemas. The chapter is not overly complex in its argument. Whilst the information about the buildingâs structure and dates are detailed, other important information is left out; such as certain productions shown. The chapter only contains three sentences about the last theatre built, The Odeon, which is incoherent with the information provided on the other theatres. End comment.
