This article focuses on opinions related to the Valhalla Cinemaâs closure from various people associated with cinema industry in Australia.
Many of them in the article considered Valhallaâs closure as a great loss in Australian cinema industry, and highly evaluated the existence of Palace chain in Australia and its features. It is pointed out that the number of art house cinemas recently increased, and Palace chain in Australia such as Trak cinemas, Brighton Bay were running well, single-screen cinemas showing films that had finished playing in other cinemas still attract people.
This article is useful to learn cinema industryâs situation in 1990s. While Valhalla was closing due to end of its nine-year lease from the Westgarth Picture Theatre in 1996, other Palace cinemas were flourishing. Also it is clearly proved that smaller and independent cinemas are required by Australian cinema industry including big contemporary cinemas.
Valhalla was closed because there was no place for lease for Valhalla. However, none of them commenting in this article does not mention about this, the reason why Valhalla was closing. While most of them in the article lamented the end of Valhalla, the reason why the cinema was unable to find next place for lease is not discussed.
